Potty Training

I don't know what possessed us to potty train a 22-month old when we have a newborn at home, but you know, we did it.

One of my mommy friends has an older kid and suggested the 3-day method a long long time ago. I never forgot it, but never really looked up on it either. All I knew was 3 days of nothing from the waist down.

As you can imagine, the thought of doing that with a newborn terrified us. But a couple of months ago, Mackenzie decided to get into the Penaten for the THIRD time, resulting in this:

We sucked it up and we picked a weekend with no plans (which if you know us, you know how impossible this is for us!), and off to training we go!

Let me tell you - the first day and a half was a nightmare!

There was a lot of, "Mack, do you need to go?" and Mack replying, "NO!" And when we did put her on the potty, there was a lot of whining and a lot of "I AM NOT READY!"

Even though she only had one accident on day 1 and day 2, we still wanted to die.

Then I remembered with any training that we had to commit and go through with it. If it worked, great, if it didn't, we were going to wait a few months before trying again.

Then miraculously on the afternoon of day 2, something clicked, and she got it. She told us when she needed to go pee, she would go without whining, and she would be so proud of herself every time she went. (She would shout to everyone she saw "I PEED!" with the biggest smile on her face ever)

But the adventure didn't end there. She refused to poop in the potty for 2 weeks. She even held it in for a couple days once and I was heart broken. I knew she was hurting, but she just refused to go! Then she went a few days where she would wait for her pull ups during naps or night time to poop.

Here we are, just over a month later, I can tell you, all the headaches, heartaches, whatever aches we had were worth it! She's now potty trained (except naps and night time), even when we're out! She's had a few accidents in between, but so far, so good. She only likes to poop at home (and who doesn't?), and her favorite treat is the red gummy bear. We sing her a song that goes, "Mackenzie went pee pee (or poo poo), Mackenzie went pee pee. She did it, she did it, she did it, hurray!" Seriously, that girl could not be more proud after every pee and poop. It's quite hilarious.

Also, we never used any portable potty that you lay around the house. We ended up only using those kids potty seats and it's all she uses.

It's so weird not to have to change her diapers now. She ended up in her size 3 for one month, and size 4 for 2 months. We went through one box of each. It's crazy to think that she was in size 1 and 2 most of her life.

My baby girl is growing too fast. What's next?
