Midwife Search

It's Wednesday.

Which means it's only been 5 days since we found out I was pregnant.

Time is going by VERY slowly. I have to wonder, is that normal? I'm counting down the days when I get to tell my family, I'm counting down the days until I can tell everyone! I'm so looking forward to our doctor's appointment tonight. He'll tell us what to do, which is much more comforting than being completely lost right now!

So, I've always wanted to have a home birth with no drugs and with a midwife. Did you know that there are only 10 registered midwives in Edmonton? Did you know that you're supposed to search for one BEFORE you're even pregnant?

I wrote every single one of them. 2 replied. 1 told me that there's a huge waiting list with all of them. 1 replied and said if I hurry, they'll consider my application.

I thought I was supposed to hire them and interview them, not the other way around.

So I'm going to fill out the form tonight, cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Why didn't anyone tell me these things?!?!?!

Will update you tomorrow after our visit with the doctor. I'm telling you, he'll be sorry I'm his patient. I have a ton of questions, concerns, fears, etc. Wish him luck.

I haven't had much time to think about writing because well, juggling 3 kids takes up a lot of time! I'm sitting here with maybe 5 minutes to spare before the baby will need attention again, so I better get to typing quick! Each pregnancy has been so different. With Mackenzie, I was miserable for the first 22 weeks with morning sickness, and then I felt like I could be pregnant forever! With Bryanna, I was miserable for the entire 39 weeks. I could not wait for her to get out! With this one, I was miserable for the first 20 weeks with morning sickness, and then great for 17 weeks, and then the last 3 weeks...well, let's just say there were some tears. With it being one of the hottest summers, I could not wait for this baby to get out! Plus the inconvenience of not being able to pick up the girls when I wanted to, or bend down to give them a kiss - I just wanted to be mobile again! Week 36 - Almost Cooked!

Or as my friend Tara would put it - almost marinated. Baby can come anytime now, but could use 4 more weeks of baking (or at least I could use it). The sleepless nights have begun. I'm feeling more and more uncomfortable as I walk, sleep, and eat. I can only walk so much before I'm out of breath. It takes me a minimum of an hour to fall asleep. And well, I'm feeling pretty nauseous these days, so food is to a minimum. All this is preparing me for when the baby comes, I can't wait! (note sarcasm) Had my baby shower this past weekend and it was great! The ladies in charge did a great job decorating and a lot of people made it out, which was awesome. We bought our first baby item this week - a playpen from Babies R' Us (it was 40% off, I couldn't resist!). Next up on the list is a stroller. STILL trying to figure that out.
